WINNER WINNER CHICKEN DINNER
This is my first year entering the fine art competition at the Alameda County Fair and I was so stoked to see that this image entitled Surf Soup won Best In Class in the Alternative Process/Mixed Media category. It was taken on a little plastic Reto 3D toy camera down in Newport Beach, California and souped in a random concoction that I don’t quite remember now. The same image is also currently on display at 540 Bar in the Plastic Fantastic show going through the month of July.
I also had a mixed media painting win a Silver Award in the 3D Art Mixed Media Category. It’s called Gut Feelings and was inspired by the work of Agnes Martin. I was thinking a lot about all the feelings that were swirling around in my heart and how nice it would be to be able to organize them and pin them up like bugs or butterflies being catalogued. The Pepto Bismal Pink color scheme was chosen for obvious reasons.
It was very fun going to the fair to see my pieces displayed in person, and even more so because they don’t tell you if you won! It was exciting to walk up search for my photos and then see the ribbons attached to my work. I will absolutely be entering again next year, and I’d like to try for the state fair as well. In the meantime I’ll be doing more experimenting and making new work.
